Artist Note

From elementary school, Sablo learned oil painting. He is influenced by paintings from the early modern and modern periods, and he uses oil painting to depict contemporary events, emotions, and stories through exaggerated expressions and homage. The faces and bodies of the characters Sablo paints are given grotesque effects, emphasizing characteristics, inner qualities, and silhouettes different from those of real people. These effects are inspired by Western paintings, films, music, and manga that Sablo admires. He samples these influences to express what he sees and feels in the modern world, incorporating them into his work.
